From the East

Dear Brethren:

Summertime has crept up on us and that means that for July and August, our stated communications will only be on the third Thursday. Please make note of this. We will continue to have degree work and other events during these months, so please keep on a lookout for those.

The relaxed pace of summer is a good time to catch up on some housekeeping stuff, so please take note of these special events:

  • July 20: Rusty Trowel Night. This is a chance for brethren who have not been to lodge in a while to reconnect, relearn the signs and words, and remember how to get into a Lodge. It is also the night before a lodge meeting, so brethren attending can come the following night. All brethren are welcome and should bring their dues cards. Contact our secretary, Wor. John Frank, if you cannot find your dues card. The goal is to get you back into your lodge. 7 p.m.

  • August 17: Rusty Trowel Night. Same as above. 7 p.m.

  • August 28: Cherrydale Lodge Community Open House. This is a time for our neighbors in the Cherrydale and Maywood Neighborhoods to come visit, see who we are, and get to know us. I will be advertising this on the community association list server. In addition, this is a great opportunity to bring a friend who might be interested in our Lodge. Note that this is not a sales event but an informational open house. We will have refreshments. 6 p.m.

I will be leaning on some of you for your support in these events and hope that they will be successful.

On July 21 we will have Most Wor. Edmund Cohen at our Lodge, speaking about the Scottish Rite and other topics. Bro. Cohen is the Personal Representative of the Sovereign Grand Inspector General in Virginia, and served as Grand Master of Masons in 2008. He is a very interesting speaker and a great person to know. I highly recommend coming to hear him.

On August 18 we will have Cherrydale’s own Wor. Richard Whidden, who will give a tiled talk on the DeMolay, which is a Masonic boys’ youth group. Bro. Whidden was a DeMolay himself, as were some of our other brothers. Come hear our good brother and learn more about this important organization.

Take care and have a good summer. I look forward to seeing you again soon.

  •

    Fraternally yours,

    Carl Edward Weaver,
    Worshipful Master
