From the East

Dear Brethren:

Fall is upon us for real with the trees changing color and the air becoming clearer and the temperatures falling into a great comfort zone. The lodge is also re-energizing itself with a master mason degree on October 2 at 9:00AM. Yes, that's a Saturday morning degree. We'll have donuts and coffee. Following the degree many of us will go to the Outback Steak House to feast on behalf of the Bethel No 1 Job's Daughters fund raiser. Great food and a great cause! What could be better!

We also preparing for a fraternal visit to the Pride of Fairfax Prince Hall Lodge this fall. Come join us. It's a great experience! Stay tuned for more information

We had two great presentations during our communications in September. Akram Elias, PGM of Washington, DC, spoke on freemasons' impact on the architecture of our famous Washington, DC landmarks. Patrick Mendis spoke on whether we are Hamiltonians, Jeffersonians or Freemasons. Again, it was a great historical presentation on how our country's vision as a nation was formulated. We are so lucky to have such great resources in our fraternity.

Most of all I want to reach out to those brothers who are paying their dues and not coming to lodge. This is a fraternity NOT a job. We are having outstanding speakers, dinners and socialization. Please come out and let's see you again.

Finely brethren, this time of the year we reach out to you to ask that you make a contribution to the Masonic Home of Virginia. Each year at our first Stated Communication in October, the brethren of Cherrydale Lodge present the Masonic Home Ambassador the proceeds of our special Founder's Day Appeal for funds in support of the Masonic Home of Virginia. Over the years Cherrydale Lodge has gained statewide recognition and the sincere thanks of our elderly brethren, their wives and widows, who reside at the home for our consistent and generous support.

Please assist us again this year. Make your checks payable to the Masonic Home of Virginia and send to Cherrydale Lodge #42, c/o John W. Frank, Secretary, 3800 Fort Worth Ave. Alexandria, Va. 22304

Fraternally yours,

James Franklin Norris
