From the East

Dear Brethren:

We had a very interesting February. Along with historic snow fall and lost time at work Cherrydale Lodge has been very busy. We had an outstanding presentation by Wor. Neil Marple of the A Douglas Smith,Jr.Lodge of Research #1949 in Alexandria on the history of Masons in Germany. One of the great sections of the presentation was the impact on Masons during the Hitler period in the 30's and how the fraternal organization had to go underground until after WWII. We could have spent several hours listening to WB Marple and still not heard it all. Great Job!

This past Thursday we had a visit from two officers from The Grand Lodge of Hawaii, RW Monty J. Glover,Sr. Grand Senior Warden and Hon. Dexter C. Carrasco, Grand Standard Bearer. Joining them was the Most Excellent Sidney J Leluan,III Grand High Priest of Arizona. Bro. Justin Strait, JW was responsible for inviting these distinguished Masons. Bro. Strait is a member of a lodge in Hawaii and has stayed in touch with his brothers there. Thank you Bros. Justin.

We also had an official fraternal visit at Columbia Lodge for the DDGM's visit on Monday February 15, 2010. It is my hope that we can have at least 10 visits this year to lodges in both the 54th and outside. They are great fun and I would ask all of you to find out when our next visit will be by contacting either me, Bros.Frank, the lodge secretary or Carl Weaver our SW.

Lastly, but certainly not least, Bro. Scott Aughenbaugh performed an EA Catechism with questioning from Bro. Alex Huber. Great job Bro. Alex!

We have a very big March planned. The District Deputy Grand Master of the 54th District will make his formal visit to Cherrydale on the 4th of March. This is very important even for the lodge and I hope you all will turn out. Also, The Grand Master of Virginia William Earle Rorer, Jr. will make his official visit to Cherrydale on March 18, 2010. This is huge for our lodge and I hope we can have standing room only for the event. Our Stewarts are planning an excellent meal for that evening.

Hope to see you all this next two stated communications.

Fraternally yours,

James Franklin Norris
Worshipful Master
