From the East

Dear Brethren:
Cherrydale Lodge had a Fellowship Picnic. Through the efforts of our new Fellowship Officer Brother John Clair we had a great family picnic in Arlington Hall Park. One of the highlights, our brothers from Fort Meyer made arrangement for members of the Fort Meyer Military police Canine Unit to provide a demonstration of one of their dogs at work. After the demonstration several members of Cherrydale put on the padding and let the dog bring them under control.
Worshipful Ralph Woodrow, Master of Fort Hunt Daylight Lodge, presented an outstand talk on the Forget Me Not Flower. Its history, as a symbol of Charity and Community support, was used by Masons during the era of Adolf Hitler and World War II in Nazi Germany and Europe.
We have received notification of the death of Brother William Cooper Creekmore, of Maitiland, Florida. Brother Maitiland died on June 11, 2006. Brother Creekmore was made an Entered Apprentice January 22, 1953; passed to Fellowcraft May 28, 1953 and raised to Master Mason July 30, 1953.
Our Past Grand Master’s Night to honor our own Past Grand Master, MWOR Stewart Miner, was a great Success!!! Present were 22 Past Grand Masters from around the country, our Grand Senior Warden and the Grand Master for the District Of Columbia. There were 91 Brothers in the tiled Lodge. There were 131 brothers and guests for dinner and the open lodge. We had a moment of silence to respect the loss of our Deputy Grand Master.
Cherrydale Lodge has named its scholarship fund after MWOR Stewart Miner and this year contributed $3,000.00 to the fund and distributed it among 6 applicants. A special thanks to all who made contributions endowment.
We have numerous candidates waiting to receive their degrees. Thus, many of our Stated Communications for the rest of the year will be used to do Degree Work. At our 7 September Stated, we will have about 7 petitions to vote on and will schedule a Degree to conduct for some of our candidates in waiting. Our 21 September stated will feature Worshipful Jay Patterson as our speaker. Jay is in the White House Press Corps, on the Board for the Masonic Herald, and also served as the photographer and reporter for our Past Grand Masters Night.
September 15 is our Annual Ladies Night at the Arlington Army and Navy Club. There will an Open Bar at 6 PM, Dinner at 7 PM, Roses for the Ladies, and the Not So Modern Jazz Quartet will again provide music.
October 5 stated is our Annual Founders Night. MWOR Jim Cole, PGM 2001, Honorary Member of Cherrydale Lodge, Inspector General for the Virginia Scottish Rite and The CEO for the Virginia Masonic Home will be our speaker. This is the evening when  Cherrydale Lodge makes its annual contribution to the Virginia Masonic Home. I hope that we will have a minimum of $2,500.00 to provide a leaf on the Tree Of Life at the Masonic Home to further honor MWOR Stewart Miner. Please send your checks made out to the Masonic Home to our Secretary, WOR John W. Frank, 3800 Fort Worth Ave. Alexandria, VA, 22304-1709. If you have made any contributions directly to the Masonic Home, please inform WOR Brother Frank of your contribution.
November 10-12 will be our Annual Grand Lodge Communication in Richmond Virginia at the Sheraton Hotel on West Broad Street.

  Fraternally yours,

 Richard Earle Robinson,
Worshipful Master
